Ice Cube isn't ruling out another N.W.A reunion, but according to the legendary rapper, whether the iconic hip-hop group gets back together ultimately depends on Dr. Dre.
During a recent interview with Complex, Cube discussed the possibility of reuniting with his former groupmates while promoting Listen & Laugh, his new podcast with comedian Mike Epps.
When asked whether fans could ever see another N.W.A reunion, Cube admitted that nothing is currently in the works but said he wouldn't be opposed to making it happen.
"I don't know. It has to come together organically," Cube said.
"Who knows? I would love to get together with them dudes. It ain't hard to find me on the microphone. I mean, I'm easy to find."
However, Cube made it clear that Dre would have the final say on whether the group reunites, especially when it comes to producing new music.
"And it's all about Dr. Dre, where his head is, you know? If he feel like doing it, we do it. If he don't, we don't. Nobody wants a N.W.A song without Dr. Dre's production."
Cube's comments come as he and Epps launch Listen & Laugh, which premiered Friday on YouTube with Dre serving as the show's inaugural guest.
According to Cube, bringing Dre onto the podcast was an easy decision given their decades-long relationship.
The rapper described Dre as "definitely [our] first choice" before explaining why he believes his former groupmate agreed to appear.
"I think Dre did it because of our history. He knows how much I respect him. I love to give him his flowers for what he's done for me in my career, taking me under his wing as a youngster," Cube said.
During the episode, Dre reflected on meeting Cube while he was still in high school and recalled recording demos together in a garage, sessions that eventually helped lay the foundation for N.W.A.
Although a full reunion remains uncertain, Cube and Dre have reunited musically in the past.
In 1999, Cube, Dre, and MC Ren joined forces with Snoop Dogg for "Chin Check," which appeared on the soundtrack for Next Friday. Snoop stepped in for the late Eazy-E, while Dre handled production.
The collaboration marked the group's first reunion in roughly a decade and was initially expected to lead to another N.W.A album, although the project never materialized.
Cube is also hoping to work with Dre again on his upcoming film Last Friday, which will reunite him with Epps.
The rapper revealed that he's considering contributing a song to the movie's soundtrack and would love to have Dre produce it.
"We'll see if he wants to bless us with his production," Cube said.
