Kool DJ Red Alert will be signing off from radio at the end of November.
On Monday (Nov. 2), the legendary DJ announced that he’ll be hosting his upcoming “farewell broadcast” on Nov. 30 with a four-hour set on New York City station 107.5 WBLS. The Harlem native previously held long-term positions at 98.7 KISS-FM in the 1980s and HOT 97 in the 1990s before transitioning to WBLS later in his career.
"Today I stand before you to announce that I'm saying farewell to radio," Kool DJ Red Alert said. "It has been an honor in my life to share the airwaves with the community for over four decades."
Red Alert continued by sharing that 2026 marks fifty years of deejaying, along with him reaching 70 years old. On Nov. 24th, he'll commemorate the milestones by hosting the Red Alert Experience Gala at Sony Hall.
"Thank you for being a part of my journey. The love, the memories, the music and the connection we all have shared and will always hold a special place in my heart," he continued. "Although I am stepping away from radio, my passion for music and entertainment remains strong. I will continue to bring the sounds, the energy, and the vibe to the people through DJing special events, and community celebrations."
He concluded, "Radio may be one chapter, but the music and the entertainment will continue. Respect."
Kool DJ Red Alert, who’s considered a founding father in hip-hop, was memorialized with an interactive sculpture unveiled in 2024 at Harlem community park Montefiore Square. Designed by Sherwin Banfield, the artwork was part of the Harlem Sculpture Gardens series.
