Key Takeaways

  • TT Torrez says Funkmaster Flex “shoved her violently” after an exchange involving her husband escalated during the Knicks-Sixers opener at Madison Square Garden.
  • Torrez’s rep says she filed an online police report that night and alleges the incident continued after years of harassment and violations of a non-disparagement agreement tied to a Hot 97 settlement.
  • Flex denied being punched and accused music executive Shadow Stokes of throwing a drink to bait him into a payout, while his attorney plans to address the confrontation on air.

Hot 97 alum TT Torrez is accusing Funk Flex of putting his hands on her during the altercation at Madison Square Garden.

In a statement shared online, a rep for Torrez says a verbal exchange between her husband and Flex at the Knicks-Sixers season opener escalated into a physical confrontation in which Flex “shoved her violently” at a lounge inside the venue on Tuesday night (Oct. 20).

"What was meant to be an enjoyable evening out for Mrs. Torrez and her husband became a deeply disturbing and traumatic experience," the rep said. “There is no justification for a man to put his hands on a woman, under any circumstances.”

Torrez’s rep claims the former Hot 97 personality “has endured years of ongoing harassment, intimidation, and bullying” by Flex.

“She chose not to speak publicly and instead addressed these matters professionally and through the appropriate legal channels,” the statement continued. “That process ultimately resulted in a settlement with MediaCo Hot 97 and a non-disparagement agreement, which Funkmaster Flex has continued to violate. The events of October 20 were a painful continuation of what she has been dealing with privately.”

“The brief video circulating online does not tell the full story,” the rep added on Wednesday. “What the public saw was a husband defending his wife. It does not reflect the years Mrs. Torrez spent time working to resolve this matter with dignity, professionalism, and the guidance of her legal team. Her experience should not be reduced to social media entertainment.”

Her rep also says Torrez filed an online police report about the incident the same night it happened.

Her former Hot 97 colleagues, Laura Stylez and Ebro Darden, weighed in in the comments section with support.

"@tttorrez has been through so much … in silence… has always advocated for others and what’s happening to her is disgusting!" wrote Stylez.

"Stay strong @tttorrez ….." Darden commented.

Flex posted footage of the confrontation several times to his Instagram early Wednesday morning. He denied being punched and said the other man, whom he identified as music executive Shadow Stokes, threw a drink on him in an attempt to bait him into a lawsuit.

"SHADOW STOKES COULD NEVER PUNCH ME! HE'S AN AMBULANCE CHASER! ... THIS MUSIC INDUSTRY COUPLE HAS AN 'ACTIVE CASE' AGAINST ME AND MY COMPANY! TRYING HARD TO BAIT ME INTO A PAYOUT! Y'ALL AIN'T SMARTER THAN ME! APPROACH WHEN THAT CASE DON'T EXIST!" Flex wrote.

According to a social media post, Flex’s attorney Chris Cabanillas will address the incident during the DJ’s regularly scheduled 5pm - 11pm timeslot on Thursday (Oct. 22).

Torrez and Flex were colleagues at Hot 97 until her 2025 departure, according to Radio Insight. She served as VP of Artist & Label Relations and Music Director since 2014 prior to her exit.

Per the New York Daily News, Flex, born Aston G. Taylor Jr., was previously arrested in 2011 after his wife accused him of shoving her to the floor and smashing her phone, and was charged with harassment, aggravated harassment, and criminal mischief before posting $500 bail.

Flex, again according to the New York Post, pleaded guilty in 2003 to harassing former Power 105.1 personality Big Steph Lova (born Stephanie Saunders) in a late-night altercation during which he called her a "broke ass bitch" and allegedly punched her in the face during an incident in front of Hot 97's former Hudson Street studios.

At the time, Flex's lawyer Murray Richman said the DJ merely pled guilty to "dispose of this matter."

“He denies striking her, and the district attorney agreed that this case could be adequately disposed of through a plea to harassment which is a violation, not even a misdemeanor,” Richman said at the time.
