Yung Miami takes a decidedly vulnerable approach on “Dear JT,” a new song off her just-released Watch Dis! album that finds her reflecting on the dissolution of City Girls.

In first verse of the new track, co-produced with Gumbo, Miami takes a bittersweet look back at how she and JT were once “trying to make ends meet” before stardom came knocking. The two went through “dark times” and “hard times” together along the way, Miami adds.

“A lot of shit done changed, everything new to me / Feels like I’m losin’ you, girl, ‘member it used to be,” she raps before the Diana Ross-interpolating chorus kicks in.

The second verse sees Miami billing “Dear JT” as a “letter to my friend,” though that friendship is clearly on pause for now. Miami also concedes that “fallin’ out with my sister in public” was “so embarrassing,” adding that she and her fellow City Girls alum were formerly “thick as thieves.”

Elsewhere, Miami tucks in a nod to Drake’s 2018 Scorpion single “In My Feelings,” a key part of the larger City Girls story.

“Sis, we could have made history,” she offers mournfully in the song’s final seconds.

In an interview with Nessa Diab for Hot 97 on the eve of her new album’s debut (Oct. 22), Miami revealed she was moved to tears while making the track, plus confirmed she did not get the opportunity to play it for JT prior to it being shared with the world.

“We started here together, and to be on separate journeys, I appreciate it,” Miami said. “I’m never gonna forget where it started.”

As of this writing, JT does not appear to have publicly responded to the song. For Miami, at least, it doesn’t sound like a possible City Girls reunion somewhere down the line is out of the question.
