Funk Flex has spoken out about the incident involving music executive Shadow Stokes and his wife, former Hot 97 host TT Torrez, during the New York Knicks’ season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.
While on Hot 97 on Thursday (Oct. 22), Flex recapped the altercation from his perspective. He claimed he heard Stokes whispering profanities at him, to which he says he responded, “‘Man, stop it, you know you still love me. I love you anyway.”
The longtime radio personality revealed he and Stokes go way back, admitting he has “never seen a guy grind” like the music executive.
Flex alleges Stokes called him a “puppet,” “pawn,” and “broke,” adding, “He said, ‘I’m a millionaire, I’m rich.’”
Per Flex, Stokes told him, “Hit me first, so I can sue you,” five or six times. The radio personality referenced this remark in an Instagram post denying that he was punched in the face.
Flex said, in that moment, he remembered alleged ongoing litigation that may have played a part in Stokes antagonizing him.
“I work for MediaCo./Hot 97 and they have a case against Hot 97,” he said. “If I would have touched him in any way or form, I’m a MediaCo. employee and they would’ve filed their papers that I was hitting him on behalf of the company for a big payout.”
Flex alleges Stokes then threw a drink on him.
“You know what I said to him after that, that really sent him over the top,” he said. “Y’all are out, never to return. Never to come back in. Y’all… are out. I don’t know what they’re talking about pushing, but that’s what sent him over the edge.”
Hot 97 alum Torrez claimed in a statement that Flex “shoved her violently” during the altercation with Stokes.
Flex believes the sole intention of escalating the incident into a violent encounter was to sue him.
“Y’all were going for, y’all are married, I touch him and then you get paid out,” he said.
Even after everything that happened, Flex admitted Stokes and Torrez are “not bad people.”
“I’ve known those two for a long time,” he said. “They’re actually good people, but they’ve let that music industry and that greed turn them into different people.”
To prove his point, Flex shared that Torrez checked on him every night after his mother died.
Flex said he was briefly banned from MSG following the altercation. However, the issue has since been resolved.
