An "aggressive" grizzly bear attacked a group of students and a teacher who were on a hike in Canada.

According to TMZ, the group was "on a leisurely stroll through a Canadian forest" when the bear attacked. The teachers helped save lives.

"Our families are traumatized, and prayers work. Our Acwsalcta School Team are our heroes and today they saved lives," a woman wrote on Facebook.

The bear attack in Bella Coola on British Columbia’s Central Coast left two people in critical condition, two people seriously injured, and another seven people who were treated at the scene, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The teachers "fought off the attacking animal," and one male teacher "got the brunt of it," CBC reported, adding that the school is "an independent school run by the Nuxalk Nation."

"There is an aggressive bear in the area. DO NOT GO LOOKING FOR IT," the Nuxalk Nation advised people on Facebook. "STAY INDOORS, do not go down any trails. If you need to go somewhere, please drive."

The "animal attack" occurred around 1:46 p.m. on November 20 on a trail, police told CBC.

The school wrote on Facebook, "It's hard to know what to say during this very difficult time. We are so grateful for our team and our students. Due to the bear incident that happened this afternoon we will be closed tomorrow: Friday, November 21, 2025. There will be brushing/smudging/counselling opportunities available tomorrow. More information to come."
