A 36-year-old female jogger was attacked by a bear in Kenai, Alaska, and dragged 100 yards down the road, authorities say.

Although badly injured, the woman survived the attack.

A dispatch from the Alaska Department of Public Safety says the "bear attack" occurred just before 6 a.m. on Aug. 26, 2025, after the unidentified victim left her home to go jogging.

"The Kenai Police Department was notified of a bear attack near the intersection of Chinook Drive in Kenai," the release says.

"Investigation revealed a 36-year-old female departed her residence at 5:45 a.m. to go jogging and was near her driveway when the initial attack occurred," it adds.

"A neighbor came outside and located her. The victim was medevac to an Anchorage area hospital with serious injuries," the release notes.

"Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Kenai Police Department, and Alaska Department of Fish and Game personnel searched the area on foot and with a drone looking for the bear," the release noted.

According to Alaska's News Source, the woman was seriously injured in the attack.

“She made it probably 50 yards from her house,” Alaska Wildlife Trooper David Lorring said to that outlet. “The bear came out of another property, it looks like it attacked her ... and dragged her approximately 100 yards down the road onto this guy’s property.”

Lorring told Alaska's News Source that the neighbor woke up after hearing noises from the attack.

However, authorities said in the news release that they have not been able to find the bear.

"Patrols of the area will continue, and the public is advised to remain vigilant while outdoors," they wrote.

According to CNN, "all three North American bear species roam and thrive" in Alaska. Black bears make up the largest population of the three, with about 100,000 roaming Alaska, CNN reported, noting that brown and polar bears also prowl the state.
