LeBron James had a very important message to share with an NBA fan at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday: he’s from Ohio, baby.
The moment came during Tuesday’s game (Oct. 20) between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks, with initial broadcast footage making it hard to decipher what, exactly, was being said. The remarks were made clearer in a subsequent clip, with the playful exchange seemingly spurred by a heckler who now, admittedly, has a story they can tell for the rest of their life.
“Ain’t nothing soft in the Midwest,” James appeared to say. “I don’t know what the fuck you talking about. I’m not from the West Coast. I’m from Ohio, baby. Yeah. I’m not a Midwest kid. I’m an Ohio baby. Fuck is you talking about?”
At one point during Tuesday’s game, which ultimately ended with the Sixers besting the current reigning champs with a final score of 106-100, Knicks superfan Spike Lee was seen appearing to intervene on LeBron and a fan.
After the Sixers secured the win, James, who scored 14 points in his debut with the Philly franchise, told reporters that he and his teammates are “still new to each other” this early in the season.
“We will have some bumps in the road at times, but I think tonight when we had those bumps in the road, which as a good team you usually do, you’re able to use what happened previously and then make the adjustment,” he added.
James and the Sixers next face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday (Oct. 22).
