Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been accused of filing for bankruptcy just to avoid paying the money he allegedly owes to a Lamborghini rental company.

As reported by TMZ, attorney Kyle Coker, who represents the rental company The Classic Lifestyle, suggested that Rice is “incapable” of being accountable for his role in a 2024 rental car crash.

“I think the only reason Rashee Rice filed for bankruptcy was to avoid the impending jury trial related to injuring others during his drag-racing escapades,” said Coker, who noted that Rice pleaded guilty to felony racing on a highway and felony collision causing serious bodily injury charges after causing a six-car pileup while racing on a highway in Dallas in March 2024.

So far, Rice has had to fork over $2.1 million over civil lawsuits related to the crash, but he still hasn’t paid The Classic Lifestyle even though he doesn’t have insurance. In the past week, he filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and claimed he’s got more than $3.45 million in debt and only $677,000 in assets.

“The Court in that case wouldn't give him the continuance he desired, and the other parties involved were ready to hold Rice accountable,” Coker added. “Upon discovering that Rice would finally have to face the consequences of his actions, he instead rushed to inform the Court that he had filed for bankruptcy over $3 million in debt, with $10s of millions in expected earnings from his next contract.”

Coker plans to attend the bankruptcy court case on behalf of his client, hoping to prevent him from successfully filing for bankruptcy.

Following the conclusion of this NFL season, he will be a free agent. Following his street racing crash in 2024, he was sentenced to 30 days behind bars, followed by five years of probation after pleading guilty.
