Adam Driver is indeed set to reunite with Michael Mann, as the actor himself has confirmed that he’ll be in production on Heat 2 starting at the top of next year.

The film, both a prequel and sequel to Mann’s original 1995 classic and based on his novel of the same name, has long been rumored to boast a titillatingly stacked cast. Now, in a new interview with Rich Eisen, the Girls and Star Wars alum has stated definitively that he’ll be taking on the part of Otis Wardell, the lead villain in the book whose presence in the larger story is, to say the least, downright chilling.

“I think I can say that,” he joked. “I’ll find out. I’ll find out pretty soon.”

In the eyes of Driver, and likely anyone who’s seen it, the original Heat stands tall as “a masterpiece” of the highest order.

“That I’m involved in it? I love Michael,” he added. “I loved working with him in Ferrari, but working on this, I’m excited. The cast is so awesome. … They’ve already started and I kind of join top of December, and we start shooting the top of next year.”

Comparing Heat 2 to its source material, he described the writing behind the upcoming film as “even more condensed and streamlined,” praising the script as “a missile.”

Expectedly, Driver was also hit by Eisen with an inquiry about recent reports of Mann having accidentally shot himself in the leg while holstering a gun at a range in the Los Angeles area. The actor reassured fans that the writer and director is doing “good” since the unfortunate accident. In fact, he is said to have returned to work the very next day.
