At one point, we were expecting Slayground, the new film from Green Room and Rebel Ridge director Jeremy Saulnier, to arrive this fall. A 40-second teaser clip promised as much back in September. But as it turns out, the A24-backed title, which has been enticingly shrouded in mystery since word of its production first started making the rounds, will launch in January instead.
Tuesday (Oct. 20), we got our closest look yet at what Saulnier has in store thanks to the rollout of a new teaser trailer. Saulnier seems to be squarely back in horror-thriller territory this time around, and the premise here seems to suggest we can expect some of the same claustrophobic energy he tapped into with 2015’s acclaimed Green Room.
Leading the Slayground cast is Cory Michael Smith, a face you should recognize from Sentimental Value and Gotham. He’s joined by Chase Sui Wonders (I Want Your Sex), Sophie Wilde (Digger), Young Mazino (Beef), Stephen Root (Widow’s Bay), Matty Matheson (The Bear), and more.
“Michael, let’s go back to October 24th,” a voice says early into the just-released teaser trailer. “Let us hear it.”
We’re then made privy to a “mass casualty incident with multiple fatalities” at a haunted house-style attraction, with scare actor Mike Graves at the center of the chaos. Mike, nicknamed “Metal Mike,” has awoken at the scene of the crime, notably “covered in blood,” but has no idea what happened. What’s clear, though, is that he’s surrounded by dead co-workers.
Slayground hits theaters on Jan. 29. Catch the new teaser trailer up top.
A24 is clearly looking to start the new year off strong following an especially fruitful 2026. Backrooms, Primetime, and You Can See Everything have all amassed strong reviews and sizable box office hauls in recent months. You Can See Everything, in fact, is poised to land atop numerous best-of-the-year lists, and is currently expected to be a major awards season contender.
