Selma Blair Says Cameron Diaz Retirement Comment Was a 'Joke'

Looks like Diaz is not retiring after all.

Cameron Diaz hasn't appeared onscreen since the 2014 adaption of Annie, which earned her a Razzie nomination for Worst Supporting Actress. It was also the same year she won Worst Actress at the Razzies for her roles in The Other Woman and Sex Tape. Whether that has had anything to do with the lack of her presence in Hollywood in recent years is unclear, but Selma Blair had headlines ablaze when she was quoted as saying Diaz had called it quits.

Blair, who starred alongside Diaz in 2002's The Sweetest Thing, said that the 45-year-old had decided to focus on her marriage. Evening Standard reported that Blair revealed the news at the Oscar's Vanity Fair pre-party in L.A., explaining, "I had lunch with Cameron the other day. We were reminiscing about the film. I would have liked to do a sequel but Cameron's retired from acting. She's like, 'I'm done.'"

But, as it turns out, it was all just a "joke."

When pressed further, Blair added, "I mean, she doesn't need to make any more films. She has a pretty great life, I don't know what it would take to bring her back. She's happy, in love and wants to make the most of her freedom and free time.” Following the reports hitting the net, Selma Blair went to Twitter to clarify things.

"Guys please, I was making a joke in an interview," she explained. "CAMERON DIAZ is NOT retiring from ANYTHING. And for more breaking news: I am NOW retiring from being Cameron Diaz’s spokesperson." Figures she's just taking a little time out to enjoy her marriage with Good Charlotte's Benji Madden, rather than retiring at the age of 45.
