Schoolboy Q has made it very clear that he's done fielding questions about his late friend and collaborator Mac Miller.
In a clip from a recent show, the TDE rapper can be seen responding to a fan who asked him about Miller. Clearly frustrated, he told the crowd to record the interaction as a way to make sure his comments were put on record.
"I wish people would stop asking me about my dead friend like it’s fucking something I’ma be so happy to talk about," Q said. "Like, that shit gets old. Everywhere I go people are asking me about my dead friend like it’s a fucking fun time to talk about my dead friend."
After the audience member apologized, the Oxymoron rapper responded: "I appreciate it, bro."
Mac Miller died from an accidental overdose involving fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol back in 2018. Schoolboy Q spoke on the effect it had on him during an interview with Charlamagne Tha God a year later.
"To this day I don't understand how I can't call my n***a no more," Q told the Breakfast Club co-host. "Losing a soul to gangbanging is way different than losing a friend that's like... an innocent kid... super pure."
He also explained in the same conversation why he had kept most of his grieving private. "I don't wanna look like I'm exploiting the situation," he said. "I got an album out and then I'm, like, crying and shit." Later in the chat, Q would circle back and call that explanation "weak."
In the interview he said he had played Miller the album before he died, and that their final conversation was a FaceTime call while Miller was in the studio shooting a video.
Schoolboy Q is in the middle of a run marking 10 years of Blank Face LP, which hit The Novo in Los Angeles on October 12 before continuing on to Phoenix, Oakland, and Las Vegas.
Next up is Rolling Loud India, where he's booked for the festival's second day on December 13. His new album THank Que, the follow-up to 2024's Blue Lips, is due in 2027.
