The artist formerly known as Kanye West’s “Homecoming,” off the 24-time Grammy winner’s 2007 album Graduation, is North West’s personal favorite from the classic project.
The 13-year-old N0rth4evr artist, the eldest child of Ye and Kim Kardashian, revealed the pick during a recent interview for Emwell’s Well Well Well series. First, North looked back on dressing as the Graduation-era iteration of her father’s bear mascot for Halloween in 2023, noting that she was listening to the album when she had the idea.
Naturally, this led to Emwell asking North to name her favorite song from the critically acclaimed album, Ye’s third. After singling out the Chris Martin-featuring “Homecoming,” which finds Ye casting his hometown of Chicago as a former lover, North even sang a bit of the song’s chorus.
With its 50 Cent-besting release in 2007, Graduation managed to move nearly 1 million units in its first week of availability. The album is noteworthy for several enduring tracks, “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and “Stronger” among them, plus for the more sonically expansive approach Ye took in crafting its bedrock of pristine production. It would be followed just one year later by 808s & Heartbreak, which marked Ye’s most drastic stylistic departure at the time.
