Since emerging a couple of years ago, DJ/producer cousins Char & Siany hit the ground running and they really haven’t let up, with a near-incessant run of live shows, releases and recorded sets.
Rising stars in the UK’s underground house scene, Char & Siany bring an infectious energy to every set. It’s palpable in this new mix for Complex Sessions. Deep house, tech-house, rollers and Ibiza slammers, it’s fun first and above all and, right off the bat, they kick off with a surefire slammer: Inda Jani’s mashup of Dennis Ferrer‘s “Hey Hey” and Gruuve’s “Shir”.
We caught up with the South London duo for the latest Complex Sessions mix and a little chat, where they explain their ethos as producers and selectors, and the importance of bringing everyone into the dance. Dive in below.
Tell us a bit about your selections in this mix.
Siany: Our selection for this mix is a blend of deep and minimal tech-house, driven by punchy basslines and high-energy grooves to keep people moving. For us, it’s always about creating energy and a feeling on the dancefloor—a chance to dance, let go and escape for a while. For this mix, we chose to focus mainly on recent releases. We wanted to showcase some of the exciting sounds we’re currently loving while hopefully introducing listeners to fresh tracks they may not have discovered yet. The result is a journey that reflects our sound, our energy, and the music inspiring us right now.
What was the one track you absolutely had to include?
Char: The one track we had to include was our latest release, “DROP IT”. It’s been gaining great support across the underground house scene and recently surpassed 2,000 streams on SoundCloud—a milestone we’re really proud of. We chose to close the mix with “DROP IT”, so make sure you stick around until the very end.
Any tracks that narrowly missed the cut?
Siany: One thing we’re known for is blending fresh music with old-school classics, so there were plenty of tracks we would have loved to include. Two that have been sending crowds wild in our recent sets are “Party Non Stop” by Pirupa and “Body Jackin'” by Jamie Anderson & Jesse Rose. Both still have ravers in a chokehold all these years later. In the end, we decided to keep this mix focused on newer releases and the sounds inspiring us today, rather than leaning into a more old-school selection. It definitely wasn’t an easy choice.
What’s the first single or album you ever bought?
Siany: My earliest memory of buying an album was All Saints’ album on CD when I was about 9 years old. I vividly remember sitting on the floor in my bedroom with all my CDs, my little blue boombox, singing along to every song while reading the lyrics from the booklet inside the case. If you grew up in the ‘90s, you know!
Char: Mine was Aaliyah’s Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number. I remember buying it on cassette and walking around listening to it on my Walkman. I was so obsessed with that album. Obviously, I didn’t understand the lyrics at the time [laughs].
What do you want to see happen musically over the next 12 months?
Siany: As new female producers, one of the things we’d love to see over the next 12 months is even more women breaking through and gaining recognition within the scene. There’s so much incredible talent emerging right now! We’d also love to see more female-led line-ups becoming the norm rather than the exception.
Char: We’re also absolutely loving the comeback of deep house. It’s been exciting to see a new generation discovering old-school deep house records and giving them the appreciation they deserve. Having been ravers ourselves during the golden era of deep house, from 2011 onwards, we love hearing those influences making their way back into today’s sound, and we hope that continues.
What trend or scene absolutely needs to die right now?
Siany: One thing we feel really strongly about is the idea of completely losing your inhibitions on the dancefloor. For us, that’s what raving has always been about: being there purely for the music. We’re not sure if it’s a trend, but we’d love to see a return to that old-school rave mentality—less ego and less focus on capturing every moment on your phone! The best nights happen when people are fully present, connecting with the music and each other. The magic of a rave is losing yourself in the moment, forgetting about everything else for a few hours, not caring what anyone thinks, and just getting in your zone and dancing for hours. We’d love to see more of that spirit.
Char: Also, putting an age limit on raving! You should be able to go out and dance until you literally can’t anymore. There are no rules; life is too short. If you want to go out and dance, go out and dance. Music is universal, and the dancefloor should be too.
