Charlamagne Tha God has directly responded to DJ Akademiks' claim that he's a paid member of Jay-Z's Roc Nation team.
On the Thursday (June 25) episode of Brilliant Idiots, the media mogul addressed the claims and called Akademiks out for being a Drake defender. Over the past few months, the streamer has frequently posted about the success of Drake’s catalog while downplaying his rap rivals.
"Let's have the conversation. Because I don't want to see any of y'all talking about people are getting paid to support and defend folks," Charlamagne said. "Because the reality is, you have an OVO chain. So you're supporting and defending Drake because you feel like Drake should be higher on this Billboard Top 50 songs thing. And by the way, I might, can agree with that."
The media personality shared that he believes Jay-Z's Roots Picnic freestyle, in which he subliminally dissed Drizzy among others, shouldn’t be included on the Billboard list because it wasn’t a commercial song.
Charlamagne instead wants to hear Akademiks address lawsuits related to Drake and online casino Stake.
"Talk to me about your boy, Grand Wizard, being mentioned in all of this crypto shit. Talk to me about that," The Breakfast Club co-host said. "I ain't even pointing at Drake with this shit. Because Drake could just be a person who is caught up in a situation that he don't even know nothing about."
After denying that Drake and Jay-Z are in competition with each other, Charlamagne theorized that the Canadian superstar will one day commemorate the 20-year anniversary of his third mixtape, So Far Gone. This month, Hov kicked off 30-year celebrations in New York City for his 1996 debut album, Reasonable Doubt.
Charlamagne went on to share his plans of attending a JAŸ-Z30 pop-up activation and intending to have an "employee discount" or, even better, take an item home free of charge.
"When I leave here, I'm going to the pop up shop and I better get a fucking discount," he joked. "In fact, I better not pay for nothing since I'm on the goddamn payroll."
Charlamagne Tha God, who offered to have a public conversation with Akademiks, later joked about an employee discount while while visiting the pop-up this week, where he grabbed multiple pieces of merch.
