Megyn Kelly Repeatedly Cuts Off DeRay in Interview About Freddie Gray

To the dismay of many activists, Edward Nero, one of the officers who was arrested on charges related to the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, was acquitted of all charges against him on Monday. Black Lives Matter activist DeRay McKesson appeared on The Kelly File Monday evening to discuss Nero's acquittal, and the two (not surprisingly) disagreed about the judge's decision to let Nero go free.

Interrupting him many times, Kelly pressed McKesson to explain exactly what officer Nero had done wrong related to the death of Gray, and said there were "zero facts" indicating that Nero was directly involved with Gray's death.

"Freddie Gray should not have been stopped," McKesson said. "He was no threat to the officers, the officers were a threat to Freddie Gray. So remember that this is about a range of circumstances today and it's a reminder that we have to change the laws and the policies in the city and the state."

Kelly then asked if McKesson feels it would be a "danger to the community if you change the laws to make it illegal for cops to exercise poor judgment?" McKesson responded that he would "never agree that an officer's role is to kill unarmed citizens. Freddie Gray entered that van alive, and he left the van with his spine damaged."

McKesson reminded Kelly that there are still five trials left for officers in the death of Freddie Gray, and he noted that he wants to see reform in Maryland's laws surrounded police conduct. The interview ended very abruptly when Kelly interrupted McKesson, saying, "I gotta go. Officer Nero's father is with us next."
