Key Takeaways

  • Jimmy Butler trolled Klay Thompson on Instagram with an AI-generated Blue Streak scene showing Steph Curry taking a "W" from his former Splash Brother after Golden State's 120-100 win over Miami.
  • Curry scored 29 points to Thompson’s 11, then called facing his longtime teammate “surreal” after their 13 seasons and four championships together.
  • Butler has made AI jokes a recurring part of his ACL recovery, and his latest video drew a laughing emoji from Heat legend Dwyane Wade.

Jimmy Butler might currently be sidelined with an injury, but that hasn't stopped him from having some fun at Klay Thompson's expense.

Following the Golden State Warriors' 120-100 victory over the Miami Heat on Thursday (November 5), Butler took to Instagram to share an AI-generated video featuring his teammates Steph Curry and Draymond Green alongside Thompson.

The video recreates a scene from the 1999 Martin Lawrence movie Blue Streak, replacing the original characters with AI versions of Curry and Thompson. In the clip, Curry takes a "W" from his former Splash Brother while Green and Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg watch from behind a dumpster.

"Don't just hand it to me, I gotta take it from you," the AI version of Steph says in the video. "Remember, you don't know me anymore."

The timing of Butler's post made the joke even better, as the Warriors had just handed Thompson and his new team a 20-point loss at Chase Center.

Curry led Golden State with 29 points, including 22 in the second half, while Lendeborg contributed 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Thompson finished with 11 points against his former team.

The matchup carried extra significance given Curry and Thompson's history together. The two spent 13 seasons as teammates in Golden State, winning four NBA championships and establishing themselves as one of the greatest shooting backcourts in league history.

Thompson initially left the Warriors for the Dallas Mavericks in 2024 before joining Miami earlier this year.

Ahead of Thursday's game, Thompson admitted he was looking forward to facing his former teammates. "Hopefully I can continue the same flow cause I made a lot of buckets in that building," Thompson said. "And it's fun to beat up on old friends."

Curry also reflected on the unusual experience of competing against his longtime teammate. "It's still surreal playing against him," Curry said after the game. “Mostly it's just an excitement of the fact that we're still able to have battles, and every one that you get is one closer to the end; so you try to appreciate it, even thought there's still a competitive sprit out there."

Butler, meanwhile, has made AI-generated content a regular part of his social media activity while recovering from a torn right ACL he suffered in January.

He previously shared an AI recreation of The Last Dragon following Curry's crossover against Luka Doncic and posted photos from Amsterdam featuring Curry's face edited onto his own body.

Curry responded to the latter post by writing, "What is wrong with you 😂"

Butler's latest video even caught the attention of Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade, who responded with a laughing emoji in the comments.
