Shannon Sharpe and Travis Hunter's wife, Leanna Lenee, are going back and forth over the Jacksonville Jaguars star's historic performance against the Houston Texans. But while Lenee believes her husband's latest accomplishment deserves some respect, Sharpe insists she's taking issue with an argument he never actually made.
According to The New York Post, the drama started Sunday, Oct. 18, when Hunter became the first NFL player in 24 years to catch a touchdown pass and record an interception in the same game. Lenee celebrated the milestone by taking a shot at Sharpe, who has previously questioned how much Jacksonville should use Hunter on both sides of the ball.
"Anyways… @shannonsharpe84 When you speak about my husband, make sure you put 'TWO WAY' player in front," she wrote on her Instagram Story.
Sharpe wasn't about to let that one slide.
Addressing Lenee's remarks on Nightcap later that evening, the Pro Football Hall of Famer explained that he never questioned Hunter's ability to play offense and defense. His argument was about whether the Jaguars could realistically expect him to handle a full workload at both positions.
"We've been abundantly clear that the likelihood of him playing every snap, every down, on both sides of the ball isn't gonna happen," Sharpe said.
He then pointed out that Jacksonville had used Hunter almost exactly as he'd suggested.
"Play him on the defensive side of the football and play him in [offensive] packages. That's what they did today… He played nine snaps [on offense against the Texans]. That's all we said!"
Sharpe also acknowledged Lenee's decision to defend her husband.
"Hey, I understand that is your husband, and you're supposed to ride for him," he said, before reiterating that Hunter should be an every-down cornerback who contributes to selected offensive packages.
The disagreement has an interesting history, especially because Hunter has repeatedly defended Lenee against public criticism.
When Hunter won the Heisman Trophy in December 2024, footage that appeared to show Deion Sanders encouraging Lenee to stand during the ceremony sparked a wave of online backlash. Critics questioned her support for Hunter, prompting him to address the accusations directly.
"I know what I got. I know my girl. My girl's been with me for five years," Hunter said during a livestream.
The scrutiny didn't end after the couple married in May 2025 and welcomed their first child. When Instagram commenters recently revived unsubstantiated allegations that Lenee had been unfaithful, Hunter dismissed one accusation with four words: "Top things that never happened."
