Claressa Shields turned an Instagram insult into a plug for her new single 'Party,' then took the exchange with Gervonta Davis into far more personal territory.

Key Takeaways

  • Gervonta Davis mocked Claressa Shields’ outfit at her Atlanta listening party, writing “You look a hot ass mess,” and Shields fired back by promoting her single “Party” and invoking domestic violence allegations against him.
  • Davis denies wrongdoing in former girlfriend Courtney Rossel’s 2025 civil lawsuit alleging battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping; the legal fallout also led to the cancellation of his planned Jake Paul exhibition.
  • Shields hosted more than 500 guests at her “Gloves Off, Mic On” event, previewing nine tracks from her forthcoming album What Did You Expect as she expands into music and reality TV.

Gervonta Davis took one look at Claressa Shields' red-carpet outfit and offered an unsolicited fashion critique. Shields responded by promoting her new single—and bringing up Davis' history of domestic violence allegations.

The exchange began after footage from Shields' Nov. 2 listening party in Atlanta circulated online. The undefeated boxing champion was photographed wearing a fitted black ensemble featuring a dramatically laced-up back that showed her butt crack, with crisscross detailing extending down the backs of her legs. She completed the outfit with bright red thigh-high boots.

Davis apparently wasn't impressed.

“You look a hot ass mess,” he wrote on an Instagram Story featuring footage of Shields posing on the red carpet.

Rather than ignore the comment, Shields shared it on X and turned the attention toward her new music.

“Keep streaming Party 🤣🗣️🤩,” she wrote, directing followers to her single on Apple Music.

Then she went considerably further.

“Ain't nobody thinking about that woman beating M*dget Tank 🤣,” Shields wrote, referencing allegations involving Davis and women he has previously dated.

The insult was particularly pointed given Davis' ongoing legal troubles. In 2025, his former girlfriend Courtney Rossel filed a civil lawsuit accusing him of attacking her at a Miami Gardens nightclub on Oct. 27. The complaint included allegations of battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and emotional distress.

Davis has denied wrongdoing and accused Rossel of attempting to extort him, although a judge dismissed his $20 million countersuit against her in May 2026. He has also pleaded not guilty to criminal charges stemming from the incident.

The controversy also affected Davis' boxing career. His planned exhibition against Jake Paul, originally scheduled for November 2025, was canceled amid the legal fallout.

Shields, meanwhile, was celebrating a different kind of debut when the latest exchange began.

Her Atlanta event, titled Gloves Off, Mic On, marked the release of her single “Party” and gave more than 500 attendees a preview of nine tracks from her forthcoming album, What Did You Expect.

Presented by Rolling Out, the listening party drew a guest list that included Scrappy, Hotboy Turk, Jhonni Blaze, Queen Just Brittany, Dondria, and other entertainers. Shields also performed selections from the project, with boyfriend Papoose and her sister joining her onstage.

The boxer later celebrated the turnout on X.

“Wow 🤩 my listening party was a success!!!!” Shields wrote. “Thank you @RollingOut !!!!! And all the media & stars that came out!!! It was crazy !!!! We dropping more heat next week!!!!!!”

The music project is part of Shields' expanding entertainment career. In October, she also announced auditions for GWOATS, her upcoming Zeus Network reality show.

Inside the ring, Shields remains undefeated at 19-0 following her sixth-round stoppage of Kaye Scott in August, a victory that brought her career total to 21 world titles.
