Adidas Originals has announced a multi-year partnership with Denim Tears, which kicks off with their first sneaker collaboration launching this week.
The inaugural Denim Tears x Adidas collab includes the classic Stan Smith ($160) and Superstar ($180) models and features uppers inspired by plaid plastic bags. According to Adidas, the inspiration behind the design references the aforementioned bags that can be commonly found on New York City’s Canal Street that were brought to America by way of Asia and then Africa. In addition to the upper graphics, both pairs feature co-branding on the tongue and “Denim Tears” branding on the side panels. Completing the look for both models is a sail-colored tooling.
“I want these symbols to be seen as American, because they are," Denim Tears founder Tremaine Emory said about the project. "If someone sees this print and doesn't see America, they're seeing it wrong. The people who carry it are living here. They're part of America, and what they do here matters."
The Denim Tears x Adidas Stan Smith and Superstar will be available on Saturday, Nov. 7, exclusively at African Diaspora Goods located at 176 Spring St. in New York City.
