A viral thread on X has its users reflecting on the wildest movies they’ve ever seen that left them shocked.
It started when an X user @flynnslick posted a call to action for anyone who saw her post. “Alright tell me a movie that made you stare blankly at a wall for 20 minutes after it finished. One that you didn’t stop thinking about and made you question everything.”
The user kicked things off by posting a screenshot of the 2002 movie Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance — a revenge thriller that follows a deaf man who partners with his girlfriend to find a way to fund a kidney transplant for his sister. Of course, things aren’t that simple — the situation spins wildly out of control, leading to disastrous consequences for everyone involved.
From there, thousands of people around the world shared their picks — and they’re still going. It’s worth noting that the films of Christopher Nolan seem to be receiving the most posts and engagement from others because of their many twists and turns.
Three that were shared multiple times are the dream-heist thriller Inception that has an ending that, to this day, has never been clarified, Interstellar, the sci-fi, world-traveling epic that makes users question the very dimension that we all live in, and the underrated classic The Prestige that invokes questions about how far someone will go to have a successful magic trick.
One user admitted that they’ve never seen a film that had that effect. “no movie ever cause me to stare blankly at a wall ... at all. ever. ever. Not one movie ever made me question everything, ever. There have been a few movies that left me thinking, 'Whew, what the heck?', but no movie has ever had the power to move in the way you speak of,” they wrote.
This response, of course, prompted people to share movies that’ll change their mind, such as The Girl Next Door, The Matrix, and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Check out some highlights from the viral movie thread below. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a film that’ll leave you stuck in your seat, too.
