Key Takeaways

  • Jaafar Jackson called working with Will Smith on Supermax “an amazing experience,” praising the new crew and the chance to film abroad after shooting Michael in Los Angeles.
  • The Prime Video action thriller follows two FBI agents investigating a murder inside the world’s most secure prison and also stars Melissa Leo, AnnaSophia Robb, and Jason Clarke.
  • David Gordon Green directed the film, which wrapped production in Australia in October and is rumored to debut next October.

Fresh off his star-making appearance in Michael, Jaafar Jackson revealed what it was like working with Will Smith on their forthcoming film, Supermax.

Jackson spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the collaboration, revealing that the movie has already finished filming. “It was so much fun, especially to go to another country and shoot a film,” Jackson said. “I didn’t get that experience with Michael because we shot it in Los Angeles.”

“But it was an amazing experience to be on a whole new set, with a whole new crew, and Will was incredible to work with,” he added.

Check out Jackson’s comments about Supermax below.

Supermax is an upcoming action crime thriller film that stars Jackson, Smith, Melissa Leo, AnnaSophia Robb, and Jason Clarke. Details about the film are scarce, other than its premise, which is that two FBI agents are sent to investigate a murder in the most secure prison in the world.

Filming for Supermax wrapped in October after filming in New South Wales, Australia, and Sydney. When it arrives (rumored to be next October), Supermax will stream globally on Prime Video.

The film also gives Jackson a chance to move beyond playing his famous uncle. His acting debut in Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua, introduced him to audiences through a role rooted in his own family. With Supermax, he’s stepping into a different genre alongside one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Behind the camera, David Gordon Green, whose credits include Pineapple Express and Halloween, is directing. David Weil and David J. Rosen wrote the screenplay, while Smith is also producing through his company, Westbrook.
