Cole Sprouse panned the press for sharing the news of his twin brother, Dylan Sprouse, claiming that their ancestors had incestuous relationships.
The actor took to his Instagram Story on Tuesday (Oct. 20) and posted a screenshot of a headline about Dylan's latest remarks on his Wildmen podcast. "No media training on earth can prep you to read this clickbait headline at 10am," Cole wrote over the image.
Earlier in the day, Dylan posted the Wildmen episode, where he walked his co-host, Brendan Columbus, through what an Ancestry search revealed about the Sprouse family tree. According to Dylan, his mother's and father's lines had already intermarried in California in the late 1800s, and reconnected when their parents, Matthew Sprouse and Melanie Wright, married in 1990. The couple would divorce two years later.
"Long story short, Cole and I are children of incest,” Dylan insisted.
The 34-year-old former Suite Life of Zack & Cody stars are not the product of immediate incest, according to EW, which detailed that the two branches of their family meet several generations back rather than anywhere close to their parents.
Dylan said the familial connection appeared to confirm why twins run in their bloodline. He had previously assumed that twin gene ran only on his mother's side, but the entertainer later discovered that his father's uncles were identical twins.
"We have seven sets of twins in four generations, which is crazy. That's a lot of twins. The reason why we have a lot of twins is it's the same family!" he said.
As Dylan explained on Wildmen, he called Cole called to show him the discovery, but was rebuffed.
"He goes, 'Not looking at that,' closed it, hung up on me,’” Dylan said on the show.
