Teyana Taylor could be adding another major movie to her rapidly expanding résumé. According to Deadline, the Oscar-nominated actress is circling a role in The Parlay, an upcoming action-crime thriller that reunites Daniel Kaluuya with “Judas and the Black Messiah” director Shaka King.
The Amazon MGM Studios project is based on an original screenplay from Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, with Akers, Bronkie and King revising the script.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is being described as an action thriller. Kaluuya is reportedly responsible for bringing King and Taylor together for the project, marking another collaboration between the actor and the director of the acclaimed 2021 drama that earned six Academy Award nominations and won two Oscars.
The new film would add yet another high-profile acting credit to Taylor's increasingly stacked slate. After earning widespread praise for her breakout performance in A Thousand and One, she has been steadily building a career that stretches far beyond music.
Recent and upcoming projects include Netflix's The Rip and Straw, Hulu's All's Fair, Paramount's Scary Movie 6, and the Kevin Hart comedy 72 Hours.
Taylor's Hollywood momentum has been accelerating on multiple fronts. In September 2025, she revealed that she remains closely involved with the upcoming Dionne Warwick biopic, in which she's set to portray the legendary singer.
Speaking about preparing for the role in 2023, Taylor explained that she and Warwick communicate frequently. "We talk almost every day," she said, underscoring the personal connection she has developed with the music icon while bringing her story to the screen.
Meanwhile, Kaluuya's own schedule remains packed. The Oscar winner is attached to several major projects, including the Chris Rock-directed Misty Green and the A24 film Hotel Hotel Hotel Hotel.
He's also producing a live-action Barney movie through his 59% Productions banner and co-writing Sony Pictures Animation's upcoming Spider-Punk film after voicing the fan-favorite character in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
