51-Year-Old Man Dies After Falling From Upper Level at Goose Concert in Madison Square Garden

The Connecticut jam band continued its full 16-song set, apparently unaware of the tragedy, and posted condolences the next morning on Instagram.

A 51-year-old man fell from an upper seating level and died during Goose's concert on Saturday (June 20) at Madison Square Garden, police say.

Officers responded to a 911 call at 4 Penn Plaza at approximately 9:51 p.m. and found the man unconscious and unresponsive, with injuries consistent with a fall from an “elevated position,” according to the New York Post. The man was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The department is investigating but said no criminality is suspected.

Fans posting to social media described witnessing the man fall from the upper 200 or 300 seating level down into the 100-level section below.

"I thought it was a balloon popping, that's how loud it was," one attendee wrote. Another in section 101 posted, "The thud was incredibly loud. All of us in sections 101, 102, and 103 are shaken pretty hard."

Attendees said venue staff cleared at least seven rows around the impact area.

One witness said the man was removed on a stretcher. “They're not letting us back in our section,” the person wrote. “They're going in with mops and re-seating us."

The band from Wilton, Connecticut, continued performing its full 16-song set, ending the show shortly before midnight, apparently unaware of what had occurred in the audience.

On Sunday morning, the band posted a statement to Instagram.

"We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic event that occurred at last night's show," the band wrote. "We extend our deepest sympathy to everyone affected. Thank you to the emergency personnel and venue staff who stepped in with care and support."

The man's identity had not been released by authorities at the time of writing.
