Dawn Richard has insisted that she wasn't an active participant on Diddy’s latest album, The Love Album: Off the Grid, despite being featured on the LP.
Three years after the album's release, to promote her new LP Creole Culture, Richard was a guest on the October 20 episode of Way Up With Angela Yee. The singer was a member of two Diddy-produced groups, Diddy-Dirty Money, and Danity Kane, the latter of which was formed on season three of former MTV competition Making the Band.
While Richard is heard on Love Album track "Deliver Me," around the 29-minute mark of the interview with Yee, the singer claimed that Diddy lifted unused material that was recorded during the making of Diddy-Dirty Money's Last Train to Paris album.
"I think one of the biggest misconceptions too was everybody thought I worked with Puff after I left him because they saw The Love Album. He stole that vocal. That was a Dirty Money song," she said.
Richard added that she last worked with Diddy in 2011, nearly 15 years before she testified against him in his sex trafficking and racketeering trial. "That was brutal. That was hard, 'cause I had moved on. I was trying to make peace with all my journey and it to relive it was really difficult," she told Yee.
In June, Richard's lawsuit against Diddy, citing abuse and mistreatment, was dismissed by federal judge Katherine Polk Failla, due to 15 of the counts being past the statute of limitations.
Upon the suit being filed in 2024, Diddy’s representatives called Richard’s claims "manufactured series of false claims all in the hopes of trying to get a payday" and claimed that she "agreed" to be featured on The Love Album.
