Ashanti wants to grow her family with husband Nelly two years after welcoming their son, KK.
The R&B vocalist and costar on Peacock’s Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together shared her thoughts on motherhood and hopes of expanding her family on a new episode of SiriusXM’s Bevelations.
In July 2024, Ashanti and Nelly welcomed their first child together, marking Nelly’s third biological child. Nelly is also the legal guardian of his niece and nephew, the children of his late sister, Jackie Donahue, who died from a battle with leukemia in 2005.
When Bevelations host Bevy Smith informed Ashanti that actress Hilary Swank is expecting her third child at 52 years old, the singer shared her doubts that she was “going to wait that long.”
“So, when I was younger, obviously, I wanted to have like six. I told him that, too. That's not happening. But I definitely want a minimum of one more because I feel like KK needs a sibling,” Ashanti continued.
The Grammy winner added that she plans to tour next year but could possibly hide her pregnancy for the first four months.
“I'm calculating things to try and make things work because I want my child to have my undivided attention,” she explained. “If I'm on tour, the tour has my undivided attention, so it's like I want to be able to do what I feel is best for each situation.”
Growing their family has been a conversation raised between Ashanti and Nelly during the first season of their show, which has been renewed for a second season and is set to return on Nov. 19.
