Chris Tucker's son Destin has plenty of stories about growing up around Hollywood royalty, but one involving Michael Jackson sneaking into a movie theater in disguise might be the most memorable.
During an appearance on Reginae Carter's Heir Time podcast, the 28-year-old filmmaker recalled accompanying his father to see the 2007 fantasy film Bridge to Terabithia with Jackson. The King of Pop was running late—or so Destin thought—until someone wearing a full-body disguise approached them.
"We were waiting for Michael, like, 'Where's Michael?'" Destin recalled. "And then somebody in a whole burka costume came up to us."
The mystery guest greeted his father by name.
"We were like, 'What the—?' It was Michael Jackson," Destin said. "In a theater full of people, Michael Jackson was disguised."
The three watched the movie together, with Destin describing the experience as "the most surreal experience."
Destin also revealed that his fourth birthday celebration took place at Jackson's Neverland Ranch, complete with carnival rides and costumed superheroes.
"I was so young, so I don't remember all the details," he admitted. "But literally, I see all the pictures. It was full-blown. We had the carnival, Ferris wheels. We had Spider-Man show up to my birthday, Batman. It was magical."
Chris Tucker and Jackson developed a friendship after the singer became familiar with the comedian's work, including his Michael Jackson impressions in the Rush Hour films.
Their connection eventually extended to Jackson's music career, with Tucker appearing in the 2001 music video for "You Rock My World." Tucker also supported Jackson during his 2005 criminal trial, where the singer was acquitted of all charges.
For Destin, however, those experiences were simply part of growing up with a famous father.
He told Carter that his childhood included traveling internationally, visiting movie sets, and attending major sporting events, although he didn't immediately understand how unusual those opportunities were.
"I didn't realize the gravity of being out meeting people," he explained, naming Jackie Chan and Jackson among the celebrities he encountered.
His father's admiration for Jackson also remained a constant presence at home.
"Every time I pass my dad's room, he's blasting Michael Jackson, and he's dancing," Destin said. "He's having a time."
The younger Tucker is now building his own entertainment career. A Morehouse College graduate, he told Carter that he initially worked as a 911 dispatcher before returning to his interest in writing and directing.
Still, Destin said his father's career remains an important part of his work. He has been documenting Tucker's comedy performances and hopes to help produce a documentary about his legacy.
