Millions of Pounds of Chicken Product Recalled Because of Wood and Metal Found in Them

Attention all poultry enthusiasts. You might wanna dial back on that chicken habit for a bit. Fresh on the heels of Chipotle’s great E. coli outbreak and DiGiorno Pizzas getting yanked off the shelves for having glass in them, another major food is under attack.

The Daily Beastreports that Pilgrim’s Pride, which is apparently the biggest producer of chicken in the U.S., had to recall more than 4.6 million pounds of their product for containing “extraneous materials.” No, really, that’s the actual phrase the Department of Agriculture used. Said materials included wood, rubber, metal and plastic but no glass.

Authorities were alerted when customers complained of finding plastic in their bags of chicken nuggets. The Food Safety and Inspection Service then intervened and found other things among the product. Luckily, no one is reported to have been hurt but who knows how many "extraneous materials" found their way into consumer bellies.
