The family of the 6-year-old Michigan boy who was shot in his neighbors’ yard has filed a lawsuit against the neighbors, TMZ reports.
Coby Daniel’s father, Arnold, is seeking at least $4 million in damages from his neighbors. Court documents obtained by TMZ say that Arnold claims his son is having a hard time bouncing back from the incident. Coby’s family is also expecting his medical bills to be costly.
Arnold alleges that his son is still experiencing physical and emotional trauma from the shooting and will likely need psychiatric and psychological counseling. Back in June, Coby was hit in the arm while attempting to get his bicycle from outside the home of Ryan Le-Nguyen and Michael Inhmathong. Le-Nguyen opened fire on the child after running after him with a sledgehammer.

“He tried hitting me with a sledgehammer but that’s not going to work because I’m too fast,” Coby told FOX 2 Detroit following the shooting. “[He] got a gun and BOOM shot me right here.”
Arnold thinks the neighbors should be held accountable for the aftermath, particularly because they were aware that the neighborhood children often play close to their yard. Arnold also alleges that Le-Nguyen exhibited “aggressive behavior” toward a number of kids before the incident. This time, Le-Nguyen was mad that Coby and his friend left their bikes on the sidewalk in front of the house.
“Right now, he’s not even processing what happened. He doesn’t realize how close he came to not being here… But I realize it,” Arnold told FOX 2 in June.
