The video of Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson being taken to and from the hospital in an ambulance during Thursday Night Football eight days ago was WWE-like cinema. Watson suffered a broken rib in the second quarter against the Carolina Panthers on October 29, but after a quick hospital visit, he made a dramatic return in the third quarter and finished the game.
The injury still lingers and Watson was limited at practice on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
Below, we will deliver a Watson injury update and look at if he will play this Sunday against the New England Patriots.
Christian Watson fantasy football injury update: Will Packers WR play this Sunday against Patriots?
Watson’s injury against the Panthers was no joke as the WR was coughing up blood at one point. When asked if he was ever told why he was coughing up blood, Watson said, “not really.”
“Obviously the main concern with that right away was if there was any fluid built up or any damage to the lungs,” Watson said. “The lungs looked OK, and obviously there were no pockets of blood or fluid in there anywhere in the CT [scan].”
Watson was limited at practice this week, but that was expected.
“We have a good plan in place,” Watson said this week regarding his health. “They’ll be pads and stuff on [my ribs]. It is what it is. It’s one of those things where it will be a little bothersome, but I can still play, so I’m obviously just going to fight through it.”
All indications are that Watson will give it a go against the Patriots on Sunday. If he cannot play against New England this week, then he will almost surely play next week in a key NFC North game against the Vikings.
The Packers have their bye the following week.
Here is a look at the Packers’ upcoming schedule.
- Week 9 Sunday, November 8: Packers at Patriots
- Week 10 Sunday, November 15: Vikings at Packers
- Week 11 Sunday, November 22: Bye
- Week 12 Wednesday, November 25: Packers at Rams
