Philadelphia's prime sneaker and clothing boutique, UBIQ, and Italian brand Stone Island are teaming up for one of their first partnerships in the U.S. with a monumental installation they are dubbing Stone Island: A Presentation of Garment Dyed Expertise. The exhibition explores Stone Island's nearly 35-year history investigating the production methods behind the never-before-used materials in the clothing industry.
If you're not familiar, Stone Island has been at the forefront of innovative fabric treatments ever since the company's inception in 1982, aiming to make its gear look good as well as be able to combat harsh weather conditions.
The installation expands upon the brand's concept, showcasing 48 unique color palettes sourced from the brand's archive of more than 60,000 different recipes of dyes developed throughout the years, with each block showing how each color responds differently on finished clothing items. Meanwhile, four unique garment dyed jackets are suspended in the space and illuminated by LED light mannequins. The whole thing will be accompanied by iPad displays with recordings of Stone Island's Creative Director Carlo Rivetti explaining his company's history with garment dyeing.
Get a peek at what the exhibition will look like in the video above, and visit the space through Oct. 31. The first launch event is going down Oct. 7 at 6:00 p.m. at UBIQ Walnut's second floor gallery space, located at 1509 Walnut Street in Philadelphia.
