The physical store only opened in July, but Kinoko has already attracted a pretty devoted crowd of customers, drawn in by the on point selection of Japanese influenced clothing and accessories. As well as the selection, the store "incorporates an organic element through the use of cork on the floors and walls," according to Max Lewis, Kinoko's founder and owner, "we also have a courtyard in the back where we've been holding events".

For Max, there are two major influences behind the store (“functionality and Japan”). Max’s obsession for Japanese clothing and brands comes from when he moved from London to Tokyo 10 years ago. He started a business selling Japanese brands from his apartment, before moving back to London and setting up Kinoko. “The Japanese influence is more about the quality and unique style of many of the brands I find in Japan” says Max, “we don’t only stock brands from Japan but the influence runs through our brand mix.”
