When Kikuo Ibe was in high school his dad gave him a watch. One day, though, he dropped his watch and it smashed into pieces. The broken present set off a lifelong search to build the unbreakable watch, a search that would eventually lead to the first Casio G-Shock.

The unbreakable watch proved popular, first with the G-Shock and then, 20 years ago, with the more lifestyle orientated MR-G. Now to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the MR-G, Casio are releasing the limited edition MRG-G1000HT. The commemorative watch is made from titanium and is handmade in the same way as historic Japanese armour, meaning that each of the 300 watches is unique.

To mark this release, we caught up with G-Shock founder and creator Kikuo Ibe to look back at his search for the unbreakable watch.
