When Gosha Rubchinskiy announced that he would be presenting at Pitti Uomo in March, the designer said he would also debut a new photo and video project. Now, after showing his latest menswear collection at the Italian trade show, we have received a look at his new short film titled The Day of My Death.

The silent black and white film was directed by well-known Russian director, screenwriter, and actress Renata Litvinova. According to VogueRubchinskiy and Litvinova were introduced through the stylist Lotta Volkova.

“We were inspired by Pier Paolo Pasolini, his story, his poems, his films, and finally his murder, which has been sealed for 10 years,” Litvinova told Vogue in an email. “His reputation was being blackened, and we decided to bring the justice back: Pier Paolo is a genius, an artist, who suffered for his principles.”

Pasolini was a controversial figure in Italy, who was known for his work in the cinematic arts and literature. He was murdered in 1975.

The 17-minute video was filmed in a tobacco factory from the 1930s and features a cast that includes Litvinova, her daughter Uliana Dobrovskaya, and Rubchinskiy, who plays a Russian soldier.

Rubchinskiy is no stranger to working behind the camera. When the designer first abandoned his namsake label after launching it in 2008, due to challenges with funding, he focused on his photography and video projects instead. Since then, the designer has released photography books, like his latest titled Youth Hotel, and has shot several editorials for brands like Supreme, not to mention his own brand's lookbooks.
