NikeLab is releasing the Transform Jacket today, which, as its name suggests, literally transforms. The multi-layered, convertible outerwear features two layers: a water-repellant woven shell connected by straps to a Nike Tech Fleece liner. The shell can be worn as a backpack or kept in the back pocket of the Nike Tech Fleece liner. Nike really thinks of everything.

"Our design process always begins with the athlete. And in the context of sport style, we think about the athlete in the city," Kurt Parker, Nike's VP of Design, told Complex. "What challenge does he or she face? What problems can we solve? We know that our consumer is extremely active, leaving home early, returning late and often moving between indoor and outdoor environments. We also know that, as the season transitions from spring to summer, the weather can be unpredictable. With the NikeLab Transform Jacket, we were motivated to create an apparel solution that could adapt to the wide range of conditions our consumer faces on any given day."

Parker wouldn't disclose any future plans for similar Nike products, but he says the company is excited for the potential of adaptability in apparel design. "People’s lives are becoming increasingly active and unpredictable. Having products such as this that can transform based on the needs of the wearer will unlock new possibilities for improving athletic performance, no matter if it’s in the gym, on a run, or in the street."

NikeLab's Transform Jacket, which retails for $350, will be available in North America at nike.com/nikelab and 21 Mercer today.
