Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto and adidas are taking their partnership to the next level with the release of Y-3's new sportswear capsule collection. Titled "Y-3 Sport," the new range of performance wear will once again bring together the Japanese brand's coveted avant garde aesthetic and adidas' advanced fabric technologies to create a premium collection of highly-functional gear.
"Sport is Y-3. It is the brand’s central essence and inspiration, and the reason I approached adidas in 2001 to collaborate together. We want to be bold. This will define a new chapter in our 15 year history together,” said Yamamoto in a press release.
The curated capsule focuses on a small selection of apparel, accessories, and footwear in Y-3's usual black color palette. To differentiate the collection from mainline Y-3, the brands used techniques like bonded construction to reduce seams, seamless knits, and laser cut ventilation through heat mapping.
To celebrate the upcoming launch, Y-3 released a new film in collaboration with i-D. Directed by Nathalie Canguilhem, the moody short film showcases the versatility of the new men's and women's pieces.
The Y-3 SPORT collection will be available online and at select retailers like Barneys and SSENSE on April 15.
