Levi’s reminds us once again they’re more than just a brand that makes quality denim (fact, not opinion), they’re part of the very fabric of history going beyond the realms of fashion. As the very definition of Americana and celebrating their 100-year partnership with the Cone Mills Denim factory in North Carolina, Levi's have decided to tell the story of the iconic 501 jeans in a three-part online documentary that is informative as it is touching.

Each episode focuses on a different aspect that has made the Levi's 501 jeans the archetypal symbol of quality, heritage and pure unadulterated style. Episode one focuses on the history of the 501's, tracing the jean’s journey from a utilitarian garment for coal miners, cowboys, industrial workers, all the way to the creative workers who continue to wear it today. Furthermore the video takes us to the Cones Denim fabric mill in North Carolina and gives us an insight into the staff that man the machines and the intricate process that goes into constructing their distinct selvage denim.

Episode two looks at the style that the 501 jeans inspired, transcending from 1930's cowboy films all the way to Hollywood and the skate scene. Despite its age it goes to show that Levi's haven’t missed a beat when it comes to staying on trend and remaining relevant.

The final episode peers into the symbolic importance of the 501's, as rebellious countercultures — and sub-cultures — all adopted the brand as their statement against the establishment. The Rebels of the 1950's proudly sported the jeans, adopting it from the laborers after the Great Depression, and made it into a symbol of impudence and unity. Worn by everyone from James Dean and Marlon Brando to Jack Kerouac and Jackson Pollock, they became the emblem of youth and a call to rebellion. From protesting against the Vietnam War to the fall of The Berlin wall, Levi's has always been there.

A symbol of originality, customised and tapered to fit the wearer’s needs you can purchase a pair of Levi's 501 jeans today from the webstore and in-store across the globe.
