Public School Flips the Script for Fall/Winter 2016

When designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow burst (or returned, depending on how you look at it) onto the scene under the Public School banner, they were heralded as New York's brightest menswear stars. Winning major fashion awards—including the CFDA Award for menswear in 2014, and the 2015 U.S. Woolmark Prize for menswear—Public School has proven time and again that there's a robust audience for its dark, layered, and distinctly "New York" take on upscale streetwear.

So it was a surprise that, for a brand that generally operates in shades of navy and black, that Public School's Fall/Winter 2016 runway collection incorporated much more color and pattern than most of the label's prior collections. The show kicked off with a emerald green suit with athletic-style trousers and Velcro closures. It was a detail that hinted at the military inspirations that would reappear in pieces like olive green shirting, a navy blue quilted work jacket, and a graphic suit in a hard-to-pin-down blurred brown camo.

But for all of the differences this collection boasted, fans can take solace in the presence of leather biker jackets, tailored trousers, and plenty of shirts primed for the label's signature reverse-layering.
