It was in 1979 when Nike released its now-iconic Windrunner jacket—a revolutionary design that aimed to improve a runner’s performance in almost any kind of weather condition. And although the game-changing garment has experienced a good number of alterations over the years, it’s been able to remain a staple in both the sportswear and streetwear realms—eventually becoming a favorite among Olympic athletes and 1980s b-boys.

Now, 37 years later, Nike has dubbed 2016 as “The Year of the Windrunner,” and has released a special illustration that breaks down the history of the jacket. Everything from its original design concept to its silhouette evolution to its place in pop culture is referenced in the comic below.

If you’re a fan of the brand, this is one history lesson you won’t want to sleep on.
