In extremely coincidental timing, the largest Alexander Wang flagship store in the world is set to open in London tomorrow, Aug. 1, reports WWD.

The store covers three stories, totaling 6,460 square feet, and was converted from what was formerly a post office downstairs and an art gallery upstairs. The new store was designed by Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen. The space is linked by a grand central staircase and closely follows Wang's signature aesthetic with sleek, industrial fixtures and a color palette of black and grey.

"It’s not as graphic or black and white as our previous stores," Wang told WWD. "There are a lot of tonal shades of gray. It’s a bit softer, with a lot more suede, and more sensual materials. All the metals are covered in matte rubber instead of being flat black metal, which we use in the other stores. A lot of the stones kind of have a powdery finish to them. There is just a more sensual side to it."

Wang also explains that he chose London for the store because it is his label's largest European market and the first international market to support him. "London is on a whole different wavelength, and I think the shopping here actually trumps New York," he said.

The store opening comes while the wounds from this morning's announcement that Wang was parting ways with Balenciaga, the Parisian luxury brand he spent three years as creative director for, are still fresh. WWD sources claimed that part of the reason for Wang's departure was that the designer wanted to focus on his own eponymous label.

If you're in London, you can check out Alexander Wang's new flagship at 43-44 Albemarle St., Mayfair, London.
