It was last October that John Galliano was officially named the creative director for Maison Martin Margiela. Today he took the stage at the Vogue Festival in London to discuss his future plans for the label.

"When I first went to Margiela I wanted to know what the house felt like because Martin hadn't been there for a really long time. I needed to establish a DNA for couture today," Galliano said to Vogue.

Even though he is considered one of the most influential names in fashion, it was a bold move for the Belgian label to sign on Galliano since he was let go from Dior in 2011 following his anti-Semitic rant at a Paris Cafe. But, early supporters like Kanye West were eager to see what he would do in his new role.

After taking a break from the industry and dealing with his substance abuse problems, he is now overseeing all of the lines under the Margiela name. During his talk Galliano said that after the last four years, he wants to put the spotlight back on the clothes.

Below are more quotes from his discussion, you can check out the rest of the live tweets on British Vogue's Twitter.
