2015 is a great time to be a fan of the late, great designer Alexander McQueen. The massive retrospective exhibition "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" recently opened its doors at London's Victoria & Albert museum, and SHOWstudio shared exclusive never-before-seen interviews with the designer to celebrate the occasion. Now, a play about the designer is about to premiere in London.

McQueen, as the play is called, is described as a way to "[step] into the fairy story landscape of McQueen’s mind." The play is set on a single night, and is inspired by what McQueen said about his Fall/Winter 2008 runway collection, The Girl Who Lived in the Tree. "I’ve got a 600-year-old elm tree in my garden. I made up a story: a girl lives in it and comes out of the darkness to meet a prince and becomes a queen," McQueen said of the collection at the time.

"I tried to find a way I could write about him without writing in a sort of obvious, biographical way – to write about his imagination and his inner life," playwright James Phillips said in an interview with BBC NewsDazed reports. He was joined in the interview by McQueen's sister Janet, who Phillips sent the final script to for approval. "She kindly read it and wrote me a beautiful letter about why she liked it back – and we've sort of corresponded since then and have been talking about all the aspects of the show going forwards," Phillips said.

You can buy tickets for McQueen, which premieres at London's St. James Theatre on May 12 and runs until June 27, here.
