Ikea Introduces Furniture Equipped for Wireless Charging... But it Won't Charge Your iPhone

Unless you buy the specially designed case, that is.

Now, it's kind of an acknowledges fact that wireless charging should really be the future. Taking your phone charger everywhere gets tiresome, and is actually really hard to remember to do if you have a lot to think about in your day to day life. Plus, having a cable and plug that separate means that you are basically guaranteed to forget at least one component, whereas wireless chargers save that fear, completely.

But what if that wireless charger wasn't something completely extra in your life? What if it was built into something that you need, love, and choose to have around you? What if it was in your furniture? Well, Swedish furniture giant IKEA has announced that it has incorporated induction-charging stations into products from its latest collection, meaning you can literally put your phone on the table and it will charge. Mind = blown.

The collection, including lamps, bedside tables, and desks, features integrated pads that can charge your portable electronic devices just by putting them on top, the technology for which was developed by technology company Qi. For the pads to work, your devices need to have the same Qi technology built into them, which means that while your Google Nexus, HTC, Samsung (except the Galaxy range), and Nokia devices will work straight away, the tables will not charge your iPhone or your Samsung Galaxy phone. Or, at least, not until you buy the specially designed phone case that will let it work and launch alongside the collection.

Check out some images of the collection below, and hold tight for a release around mid–April.
