While the winter cold is keeping most of us inside, it's not enough to keep street artists from painting murals outdoors.

The first month of 2015 was a noteworthy one for street art. Over the past 31 days, there's been an impressive amount of innovation in street art. Overall, artists have used unconventional methods and out-of-the-box approaches to change the way we look at their pieces.

UK artists Irony and Frank Styles, for example, used backlight paint to craft the world’s first UV street art piece in England. Because a 2D portrait wasn’t enough, Parisian painter Hopare suspended wall fragments to add an extra dimension of visual interest to one of his works this month. Lithuanian artist Morfai cleverly utilized wooden frames, polyethylene sheets, and LED flashlights to depict a life-like moon mural on a building’s facade.

This month also saw some atypical collaborations, like a Madsteez x Nike painting that celebrated the College Football Playoff National Championship. The artist used an interesting approach in the project, recruiting a social voting service that allowed the online community to guide the mural’s artistic direction in real-time. After the recent attacks on Charlie Hebdo in Paris, local artists like Gris1 and Andre banded together to launch a collection of socially reflective pieces.

Peep the slides below to see how street artists pushed the envelope and kept things interesting in January 2015. Here's In These Streets: The Best Street Art of January 2015.
