Lupita Nyong’o turned heads at the Oscars this weekend in a dress that was covered with 6000 pearls. But it turns out that style enthusiasts weren't the only ones paying attention to Nyong’o's look, and now the pricey dress has gone missing from the actress's hotel room.

The Calvin Klein dress is covered in Akoya pearls, which are known as the most lustrous and classic pearl variety, and is worth $150,000. Nyong'o was keeping the dress with her at West Hollywood's The London hotel and someone crept in while she was out and made off with it, TMZ reports. Police are currently scanning security footage to identify the culprit.

Stars' expensive wardrobes are, unsurprisingly, a major target among thieves. Celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Courtney Love, Queen Latifah, and Amy Winehouse have all had dresses and jewelry taken from them.

UPDATE 2/27/15:

While the dress as a whole was evaluated as $150,000, Page Six is reporting that pearl experts believe if each of the 6,000 Akoya pearls were sold individually it could be worth anywhere from $1 million to $10 million.

Unfortunately, the cops are no closer to catching the culprit. Security footage at The London was reportedly spotty and didn't provide anything to help police with their investigation, according to TMZThe tapes were so bad that the source told TMZ, "If Ray Rice did what he did at The London, he would have gotten away with it." An odd way to put it, but point taken.

UPDATE 2/27/15:

After being stolen this Thursday, Nyong'o's dress has turned back up at the London Hotel. The dress thief called TMZ to alert the site that the dress could be found in a bag in a bathroom on the second floor of the hotel Nyong'o's was staying at. The man divulged that he stole the dress from the actress' hotel room after he saw that the door was left open.

If you believe this is a story of justice being served, think again. The thief only returned the dress after he tried to sell two pearls at Los Angeles' garment district and found that they weren't authentic. He wanted everyone to know about the "Hollywood's fake bulls**t," he told TMZ.
