Designer Alberto Caiola was commissioned to develop the concept and space design for a speakeasy in Shanghai called Flask. "Considering that Shanghai has already seen its fair share of hidden speakeasy-themed bars and lounges," Caiola told Designboom, "we decided to build suspense and break it in an entirely unexpected fashion." The lounge is located behind the Press sandwich shop and the way in is through the Coca-Cola vending machine against the back wall.

The entrance reminds us of Bodega, a sneaker boutique in Boston tucked behind a real store. Caiola describes the relationship of the bar and the restaurant as a "juxtaposition of light and dark, elegance and funkyness, personal and playful." The bar features a drop ceiling with angular cubes to create a "mysterious allure," two bottle installations, one with massive 25-liter whiskey bottles and spotlights, and the low lights, copper canopies, and earthy tones throughout add to the overall vibe of the space.
