Nicola Formichetti and Diesel Channel Punk for Fall/Winter 2014

Ironic references to the Punk personalisation aesthetic.

Fall/Winter 2014 is Nicola Formichetti's first season as creative director of Diesel, and he's wasted no time in making his presence known. While Diesel is often championed for it's denim, Formichetti has radically overhauled the denim in this new season, and focussed on embellishment and a DIY aesthetic of customisation directly inspired by the Punk movement in the '70s, where band and slogan badges and patches were symbols of pride, fandom, and a form of expression and customisation.

The nod to the DIY punk mentality is more than slightly ironic, given the pre-fabricated personalisation of the patches, but that doesn't mean it isn't a dope move from Formichetti and Diesel. Punk is a great look to want to channel, and aside from just punk, the patches are inspired by embellishments and patches from army corps, coats of arms, and military rankings, as well as metal band logos.

Check out some more of the patched denim below, and head to your local Diesel stockist to pick up the Fall/Winter 2014 collection.
