On the "About Us" page for DIS Magazine, Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso, and David Toro write that their art collective, also known as DIS, "explores the tension between popular culture and institutional critique, while facilitating projects for the most public and democratic of all forums—the Internet." The Biennial Foundation recently announced that the collective will curate the 9th Berlin Biennale in the summer of 2016.
According to the New York Times, Boyle, Roso, and Toro are also the Editorial Directors of VFiles, but with DIS Magazine they say that they are "more interested in Burlington Coat Factory than Prada." In an attempt to describe their place in the fashion world, the Times writes that "DIS’s editorial mission is to interrogate and collapse hierarchies." It's that same disruptive spirit that has people excited about the choice by the Berlin Foundation's selection committee to make them the curators.
"Given their internet-centric aesthetic, one would expect the biennial to take a strong tack towards post-internet art," writes Alexander Forbes of Artnet, a thought shared by Thomas Gorton of Dazed, who also mentions that the collective is "closely linked" to Ryan Trecartin and Tabor Robak. 2016 is not exactly soon, but we expect to hear more about this in the months to come.
